lens adaptation

If you want to wear contact lenses, the first step is to consult your ophthalmologist

Your ophthalmologist will give you a pre-adaptation consultation that consists of a full review of the following pieces of information:

  • Know if you are being followed for a general illness that may contraindicate the wearing of lenses
  • The state of your appendages: eyelids and lacrimal glands
  • The state of your eye surface (tears)
  • Identify your visual defect

If it is a specific corneal pathology such as keratoconus, it will ask for additional tests such as corneal topography.

At the end of this ophthalmological assessment, your ophthalmologist will explain:

  • if your eyes are compatible with wearing lenses and which ones?
  • the adaptation procedure in two or three sessions

At the end of the adaptation sessions, you will leave your ophthalmologist’s office with a prescription stating:

  • the brand and type of lenses with their parameters
  • the type of port
  • the lifespan of the lenses and their frequency of renewal
  • the name of the cleaning product to use
  • the delay before the next appointment

You can then go to your optician with your prescription to order the lenses and the prescribed cleaning product.

After purchasing your lenses, you will return to your ophthalmologist to validate the lenses and check their tolerance.

The learning of the manipulation of the lenses will be done:

  • by the assistant of the ophthalmologist
  • by your optician

Finally regular appointments will be scheduled with your ophthalmologist to check the condition of your eyes under contact lenses.
